Track 10- "Parallax"

Parallax is track #10 on Truth Hurts. This song was probably the most gratifying song to have complete. It almost didn't make the album (three or four times) and it also took the longest to record out of all the songs. We demoed it. It wasn't fast enough. We recorded it again. It was too fast. We slowed it down. We sped it up. And eventually one day we just nailed it.
The lyrics to Parallax were written over the course of a month. They were inspired by a place called Plum Village in south of France and the teachings of author, poet, and peace activist Thich Nhat Hanh.
Parallax is a personal and introspective look into the spiritual journey.

Underwater Housing

I received the underwater housing for my xr-100 the other day! I'm excited beyond belief and ready to get some shots from the lineup. I had some concern before I purchased this particular housing. I wasn't sure if it was going to work with the lens that I use most of the time, a Raynox 0.3x semi-fisheye (hi-def). For anyone who uses the xr-100 knows that it's somewhat useless without the use of a wide angle or fisheye. I found that the underwater housing has ample space but it didn't come with an adapter that would work with this particular camera/lens combination. So, what I had to do was modify one of the adapters by fusing a tripod mounting plate into it. It ended up turning out perfect and ready for a sesh. Film and photo from the water for those of us of non Woody Woodworth stature. I'm also soon going to put this Chinon CXII from 1978 to use.

I first heard Travis back in 99' when John-Paul came back from Scotland with this record. Our Scottish cousins introduced Travis's music to John-Paul while he was visiting family in Scotland. Travis have been one of those bands whose albums continuously circulate among our group of friends.

For those of you who have been keeping up with (RAZOR KiNGS) us. We have been posting songs from our new album "Truth Hurts" with the lyrics and story behind the song. Thanks again to all those who have been following and welcome to all the new people. This is track 6 from the album.

"Don't Tell" features all three of us on vocals. It is an optimistic song about doing things our way. Standing behind what it is that we do and how we do it (obstinate, I know). I think of it as our version of the Bad Brains song "Attitude"
Vashon sent me a demo/instrumental of "Don't Tell" and I instantly wrote the lyrics to it. The melody jumbled around in my head for about a week until the vocals were recorded. We actually recorded this twice. Once in the summer of 08' and then in early 09'. The second version was used for "Truth Hurts"

If you stand in just the right place on Granby street you can see the boarding house, health care center and zoo that I am referring to in "Forgive". When I broke my wrist I did not have insurance but was informed that I would need a cast and was sent to this center. When I got there, they told me they didn't treat injury. I was refused and sent out -- and I experienced, for my first time, what too many American citizens have to. I became angry and overly frustrated with health care policies and basic human struggle, in general. I saw the pain and desperation in the eyes of many so often caused by sheer lack of information. I saw fear and rapacity evolving to more hate and more crime. To anxiety, fabrication. To killing, denial, isolation. This observation brought me full circle once again: to rely solely on faith, that which lays in my heart and is not forgotten, but to also question the answers with stark interest and hope for knowledge.

"Forgive"
I had a friend that's gone away and settled for something less. In a boarding house just down the street, in a town with unlocked doors. A health care center where I was refused and sent out. A zoo outside my window, victims laying in the gutter, fuck it move on. But I find it hard to see past my brothers and sisters struggling, borderline of desperate. Can't escape this madness that floods into the streets. A tap that's running empty while some still thirst for TRUTH it HURTS. But don't lose faith in the things you cannot see because one day all your dreams will reside in present day you see. I know nothings wrong but something just aint right. "Faces" is a song reminiscent of past friendships and relationships. How people constantly change over time and sometimes lose touch. I wrote and demoed it in about 10 minutes sitting in a cold, damp apartment I used to live in in Virginia Beach. I originally had a hip hop beat in mind then Vashon had the idea to speed it up, which ended up sounding the best. The lyrics were inspired by the concept of the song "Got a Minute" by Kid Dynamite where the first line is "we used to see each other everyday, now we're lucky if its twice a year." I suppose Faces was written toward the beginning of the album because we had not yet titled it.

At the time when I wrote "Take Mine", I was going through a power struggle at my job. I ended up getting Screwed over for a position because new supervisors were filling the positions with their buddies from other company's instead of their current employees. Furthermore, I personally trained some guy who was hired as my boss. So in "Take Mine" I was taking shots at everyone caught in the corporate rat race.

"The elements", all of which were taught to me by my older brothers shaped who I am in many ways. Somewhere in the midst of progress, punk rock music was embraced by my middle brother. The first time he played Operation Ivy's album "Energy" to me I proceeded to view music in a different light. This opened up a world to me. We began to play music with similar character and soon to be best friend Vashon Warren and eventually formed RAZOR KiNGS. Our sound reflects our many influences and who we have come to be as individuals. My oldest brother found and developed SKYHiGH MUSIC. A team of producers and mc's.

So we've been back for about 2 days now. First off I want to thank my bro in Jersey City for giving us all a place to sleep, shower and use the bathroom. Very kind of you. Jp for cooking a breakfast and dinner that fed 15 people. Door guy at Arlenes Grocery. Stephanie at Crash Mansion. White Castle for the late night feast. Queen. J Karner and the Petersen Bros, our brothers. Always keeping it real. You guys played amazingly every single night and definitely made some new fans. Chris Kendrick for making everyone laugh. Jared for driving us all over the place. The Fastermores for giving us a reason to dance, crowd surf, jump off walls and put our fists in the air. Connies Ric Rac one of the best shows ever. Krazy Lee for putting us up in Philly. Much appreciation for keeping it cool....we owe you big time. DC traffic. Joe Chuck and Spies. Everyone who came to the show in Richmond. Sup people,

So we drove all night and got into Jersey City at about 5:30 am and met up with The Fastermores and J Karner and the Petersen Bros. They have been touring for about two weeks and we're stoked to be meeting up with them and playing a couple shows over the next five days.

The first show is tomorrow night JAN 8th at the CRASH MANSION in NYC. All NYC friends must attend.

Everyone crashed hard after a late night and long morning. JP served up breakfast for everyone this morning, delicious.

Bad Brains Nov 6th NYC

I was in Jersey City visiting my brother in September and caught news that Bad Brains were playing a few shows in November in NYC. As soon as I heard we went and got tickets. Last time we tried to see them was when cbgbs was closing and it sold out in 5 minutes. None the less its going to be an experience. You always hope you will get to see your favorite band live one day; see you on Thursday! Also, Rivals Schools is opening! -G

The Fastermores Cd Release Party

Its going down Friday November 21st @ The Boars Nest at ODU. Their new cd is called "Not One Red Cent" and is included with admission at the door the night of the show. The seven songs were recorded with Chris Kendrick at Whisky Bear studio. Its got a good live feel, and is quite accurate of what they sound like live, awesome! Take care, see you at the show.
